What is Content Marketing vs Promotion!

Content Marketing is when you use words, pictures and or visuals to attract a targeted group of people with the hope that you will influence them to take a specific action. If you're a business owner/entrepreneur, you most likely want them to buy your product or services.

Promotion is the amplification of your content marketing message. Promotion is the task/job and Content Marketing is the approach you take and the tactics you use.

Example: Promotion is posting information about your product or services online, passing out your flyers or you "going live" from your phone and letting people know you exist.

The trick is to make people care enough to take action! (That's the marketing part). Anyone with a phone can post or goal live. But it takes a great marketing mind to get people to buy your products and services with words, videos and pictures.

If you're a business owner...you must have an effective marketing and sales strategy in place before you start the promotion phase.

Why?

Because a bad content marketing/sales strategy or no content marketing/sales strategy is about as useful to you as a 1000 burnt up dollar bills.

As a business owner you can't afford to keep spending money on flyers, pictures, and "marketing people" without getting a return on your investment.

If you invest one dollar promoting your business...you should at least get your dollar plus 50 cent back, right?

Here are three things you must be clear about before you start investing and promoting your business...

  1. What job are you getting hired for?

  2. What problem are you solving for your client?

  3. What is keeping your client from solving this problem.

Example: People may call me a "business strategist" or "content marketing" consultant. However, they're hiring me to make them money.

Their problem is they don't know what to say or do to attract, close and keep their ideal customer. In most cases they aren't even sure who their ideal customer is.

Could they learn how to attract, close, and keep their ideal clients? Absolutely, but who's going to run their business while they do?

Once you know these three things, you can create "customized content". Instead of talking to everybody...you create content that speaks directly to "decision makers" and "check writers" in your industry who need and want the help you provide.

Example: Attention Small Business Owners, are you tired of losing money on marketing? What if it told you that I could help you attract, close and keep a pipeline of great customers/clients? And I could do it without you having to leave your office? If you're interested call me at 333-555-cash.

Now instead of promoting you or your business...you are promoting what your business does for the people who are most likely and willing to pay for your services.

Do it this way and you will significantly improve your chances of getting the sales you need to sustain, plus grow your business.

Oh, and one more thing…
