How to Hire a Great Content Marketing Consultant. Told By a Content Marketing Consultant.

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

There is a huge problem in our industry. Some people are calling themselves Content Marketing Consultants, but they are really just scammers looking for hard working business owners to take advantage of.

I stand with you. Good hard-working business owners looking for a return on your investment!

With that said I just want to give you the heads up on what traits and tricks to be aware of when you're hiring your Content Marketing Consutant.

Here are some people you need to be on the lookout for…

  1. The Criticizer: This is the person who's only telling you what you and/or your team are doing wrong. Thier goal is to create doubt, division and present themselves as your savior.

  2. The Dreamer: This is the person who promises these huge results. They know people and can make you a star. They're always talking about what could happen, but they never show you how it's going to happen.

  3. The Confuser: This is the Consultant who never gives you a straight answer. Everything is…it depends. They tend to use, overuse or misuse buzz words like "High Level", "Content", "Organic Traffic", "Target Market" or "Sales Funnel". It's a huge red flag when your consultant can't explain what they do in terms a 3rd grader can understand.

When people ask me what I do, I say…I help small businesses owners/entrepreneurs stay in business by showing them what to say and what to do to get customers to buy their stuff. Some people call that Marketing.

How?

I created a system, I call "The 7 Gets" or "The 7" which allows my clients to turn free social media into cold hard cash.

Beware of the Consultant that has no plan/strategy for recouping your investment in them.
Make them prove their worth by disclosing their strategy.

Great Content Marketing Consultants are not great by accident, they have a reason for every word they say, video they shoot, email they send and why it was sent or done in that what order.

Ask your content marketing consultant "how is what you're telling me to say or do going to get the attention of my ideal customer and ultimately get them to buy from me".

When they answer, don't settle for anything less than detailed descriptive answers about how each step helps you reach your goal.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, especially if their answer or strategy isn't making sense to you.
If they can't explain clearly what they do to you...how can you" trust them" to explain clearly what you do to your potential customers?

This is your business, and its success is your responsibility...so anyone that you hire has to bring you closer to success, right?

Remember: This is not "content"! This is how you're going to attract the customers and get the sales you need to create the life of your dreams.

And hiring the wrong content marketing consultant can kill your dream before you even get started plus leave in drowning in a pool of debt.

Don't hire a Content Marketing Consultant until you're sure they can help you and you understand how. You are not creating content. You are using content to attract your ideal buyer, close deals that advance your goals/dreams and generate revenue.

And like I always say, "If it doesn't make sense to you...it won't make dollars for you."
