With that said...
The role of a Content Marketing Consultant is to create a profitable sales outcome by attracting your ideal buyer/customer.
Here are the skills/experience you should be looking for…
Sales Experience
Copywriting Experience
A Proven Process:
If you hire a Content Marketing Consultant who doesn't have these skills, you will struggle to recoup your investment, plus sustain and grow your business.
Here's why sales experience is important.
The title Content Marketing Consultant should really be Content Marketing and Sales Consultant.
Why?
Because a sale is the outcome of compelling content and a well-executed marketing strategy. If this was math it would be compelling content plus good/great marketing plan equals sales.
Sidenote: If you're investing money...you're going to expect some of your returns to come back in money too, right? (Not likes, impressions or followers)
A great Content Marketing Consultant wants to be judged on how they impact your bottom line. Why? Because that's how the great ones keep score.
Oh, and if they don't consider you financial success a priority, please don't hire them!
I strongly recommend hiring Content Marketing Consultant who writes or has written sales copy. Why? Because content marketing is about knowing what to say, when to say it, who to say it to, why to say it and exactly how to say it, in order to generate sales.
In order to attract and close your ideal customer/buyer, your Content Marketing Consultant must be able to create compelling and memorable…
Headlines
Taglines
Value Statements
Soft and Hard closes
Don't let anyone trick you into believing the words don't matter. I've helped clients make millions by just changing or adding "the right" words. Remember "fast start, start fast"? That little change in phrasing sent their closing numbers/sales through the roof.
This is especially important when consider how platforms limit your reach. The platform is only going to show maybe 50 people your new ad, post or reel.
With that said, you have one shot and it's through a very small window, so you must have a headline that gets the attention of your ideal buyer/customer because only 3 or 4 of that 50 people may see what you post are going to be a buyer.
It's not about how many people see your posts. It's about closing the buyers who see your post. If you're only getting 30 views but 4 sales per post and you post 3 to 4x a week,
that is 12 to 16 sales per week. Now imagine if your product sells for $299. That would give you between 3600 and $4800 in sales per week.
That's why your Content Marketing Consultant needs is a "proven process".
A lot of Content Marketing Consultants can and will talk confidently about making you successful but when you ask them how…it gets so quiet you can hear a mouse poop!
Many Content Marketing Consultants talk about your target market and what platforms they'll use. But you need to know how they're going to beat the algorithm and get you sales!
Subscribing to your channel or joining your mailing list is not a sale. As a business owner you must have sales. If you don't have sales, how are you going to pay your bills?
As a Content Marketing Consultant, my role is to focus on attracting, closing, and keeping your best customers longer. Why? Because your huge profits come when you can get multiple sales from the same customer and then turn them in a "Demander and/ or a Promoter".
A "Demander" is someone who demands people work with you!
They say things like "when you get there ask for John, and politely decline if they
offer you anyone other than John. Then ask for John again."
A "Promoter" comes from the term Net Promoter. These are the customers who like, share, and go live from your events. Their testimonials inspire the trust and confidence you,
which helps your potential ideal buyer make up their mind on whether or not to hire you.
When designing your content strategy, the great Content Marketing Consultants are making sure what you're doing and saying is attracting your ideal customers/buyer even if he or she has to get on camera with you or do it for you.
Once the creating is over, a "great consultant" is working with video, graphics, web design and your media manager (who all could be the same person) to make sure it presents attractively to your ideal buyer.
Once your content is edited, your Content Marketing Consultant should put together a schedule and campaign based around the content designed to reach your ideal customer.
And finally, your Content Marketing Consultant should be working with you to track sales, get feedback, and assess progress. Just in case adjustments need to be made.
