What is a Content Marketing Consultant?
There are two kinds of Content Marketing Consultants: Noise makers and revenue generators.
If you're going to hire a consultant, make sure you hire the revenue generator.
A noise maker is a consultant who uses what can only be described as the "spray and pray" method. They see their job as just helping you make the content and then putting it out on as many platforms as possible. Which is very slow, random, and costly.
If your goal is to recoup your investment and drastically improve your bottom line…don't hire a noise maker.
If your goal is to use content as a way to get more sales…you need a revenue generator who knows how to create content that attracts and closes your ideal buyer.
A huge red flag is if your content creator doesn't ask for or want a percentage of your back-end sales. Typically, 3 to 10%. Why? Because who would you take a 4 or 5 figure flat fee knowing you were about to make your client millions?
Noise makers who don't ask for a percentage of the back end almost never have a proven track record of recouping their clients' money or growing their sales. They might make nice videos that get you on TikTok, YouTube, and IG but it's usually at a loss to you.
If your goal is to use Content Marketing as a way to attract partially closed clients to your brand, business, or service and then convert them into sales, you need a Content Marketing Consultant who knows how to attract and close your ideal customers/buyers.
Your Content Marketing Consultant must be a master at using headlines, taglines, calls to action, pricing, plus written and spoken copy. Oh, and sales background too. It also helps if they have a strong negotiating skills and behavioral science i.e., why people buy. Consultants who have these skills create much better content.
The majority of entrepreneurs and business owners are makers and visionaries. The main reason business owners hire a Content Marketing Consultant is to turn their ideas into income. Over the last seven years my recoup rate is better than 98%. I don't lose my clients money! Which is my "re-hire rate" is over 98% too.
I don't build your website. I have some of the best in the business as partners for that (Let's Design Your Site). I don't hold a camera or shoot footage, but I do have great partners who do (Jones Management). A true Content Marketing Consultant is a strategist who helps you create your Marketing/Sales plan. He or she should be showing you where you can gain market share and add new products or streams of income. They should also be able to show you how you're going to recoup your investment while mapping out your future sales growth strategy. (Sales without a marketing strategy is impossible and Marketing without sales is just wasted time and money)
As a Content Marketing Consultant my job is to make you, your products, and or services more attractive to your ideal customers/buyer, so they give you their money instead of your competition. Not just make noise with reels and videos that get ignored and cost you money.
Here's the truth, instead of Content Marketing Consultant...the title should really be Content Marketing and Sales Consultant. Why? Because the sales numbers are how we judge whether or not the content and marketing are working. You should never hire a Content Marketing Consultant who doesn't want to be involved in or track sales.
