Are Digital Marketing and Content Marketing The Same Thing?

Updated: Jul 22, 2023

There is a huge difference between Content Marketing and Digital Marketing. Content Marketing is what you create, and Digital Marketing is how you use what you create.

Content is your emails, videos, billboards, reels, posts, newsletters, webinars, podcasts, online courses…. The marketing is what you say in or on what you create and why.

Digital Marketing is how you use your content, plus what platforms and delivery systems you use and why.

Let's say I shoot your podcast. I will then use the visual and audio to reach your ideal buyer, plus get my team to chop your pod up into clips for reels/stories/posts and or TikTok videos if that's where your ideal buyer searches for information.

We can literally turn two hours of talk into two or three months' worth of sales generating "customized customer driven content".

Why does and or will it generate sales?

Because the more times and ways your ideal buyer is exposed to you and your helpful "customized customer driven content", the more they will trust and value your information.

Is this important? Very Important!

You must have your ideal buyer's trust! Because your ideal buyer will only give you their hard-earned money if they trust you and what you're saying/selling!

No Trust No Sales! No Sales No Business!

The greatest Content Marketing Consultants design content that you can use on multiple platforms and multiple times. I still have clients making money with taglines and concepts I helped them create two or three years ago.

Trust plus authority sells and you need sales!

If I create "podcast content" with a client. My very next step is to create an email to send to their email list (Email Marketing), and it usually immediately results in new sales for my client.

Why?

Because of the "angel effect"... anytime you are on a podcast, TV show, speaking from stage, going live or being interviewed, you are in the position of topical authority. And automatically and you, your product and your information seem more trustworthy.

So, if you have on the fence clients in your email list, this will help them make a decision to buy. Never miss a chance to expose your email list and or followers to you, your product/process and your expertise.

Added bonus!

You can structure your questions in an order that helps to build trust and builds you up as an authority in your industry. By asking questions like, "when did you know you had made a the right decision".

This kind of question will bring your ideal client closer to making a buying decision. That's the "content" content marketing part. (I'll give you an outline in one of my next few blog posts)

As a business owner/entrepreneur, the better you use digital and content marketing...the more revenue you'll see come to your business.

As far as digital marketing goes...you must figure out what platform your ideal customers are most likely to look for the kind of help you offer on and focus he majority of your energy and money there.

It doesn't matter what platform new or hot. What matters is your ideal buyer using that platform or method to find their solutions and make their purchases.

Example: Did you know most of your favorite podcasts come in digital and audio form? Why do you think that is? Because you have buyers who will never listen to a podcast or read the transcript of your show, but they will watch your "YouTube" version faithfully.

Your ideal buyers might not even know that there is an audio version. So why do both? Because there are buyers who only listen to audio who will buy from you as well.

There might not be as many, but every sale counts, just don't make the less popular platform your highest time or financial priority.

Again, content marketing is what you create,

and digit marketing is how you use what you create.
